There comes a time in any car driver’s life when they need to invest in some new tires. Summer tires are usually the ones that come on expensive sports cars and are not suitable for driving in cold weather or in snow. Summer tires usually feature a very shallow tread pattern and are softer than normal tires. Many summer tires excel when the weather turns hot, as the compounds they are comprised of are so sticky, that it feels like your car is on rails. Many summer tires also excel in rain. Most manufacturers work water siphoning grooves into the ribs of the tread so that water can be dispatched quickly. Many summer tires also feature lower sidewalls to accentuate the size of your rims and add a more aggressive look to your car. Winter tires, on the other hand, are designed to excel in freezing temps and in snow. These tires feature deeper tread and many also have a silica based compound that allows the rubber to remain grippy, even if the temperatures outside are below freezing. All season tires are sort of in the middle group of both of these tires. Having experienced the winter on both all seasons and dedicated winter tires, I can say that having a separate winter and summer set of tires are absolutely the way to go.
